Blake E. Fought Memorial Scholarship

The Blake E. Fought Memorial Scholarship was established in 2003 when the CVCWVUAA created a $25,000 endowment to provide scholarships for area students attending West Virginia University. This endowment honors Blake Fought, a member of the Class of 2008, and provides funds for non-resident undergraduate students at WVU.

Scholarship Impact

Since 2005, the CVCWVUAA has awarded over $40,000 in scholarships to deserving students, helping make WVU education more accessible to non-resident students in our service area.

  • Established: 2003 with a $25,000 endowment by the CVCWVUAA
  • Eligibility: Non-resident undergraduate students enrolled at WVU living in the geographical area served by the CVCWVUAA
  • Selection Criteria: Academic achievement and financial need, with each criterion weighted equally
  • Awarding Body: WVU Office of Student Financial Aid determines recipients
  • Award Structure: Two equal scholarships of a minimum of $500 are awarded yearly, with additional recipients as the endowment supports
  • Award Duration: Recipients are eligible for renewal but limited to not more than two consecutive award cycles
  • Fund Management: Endowment funds are invested and managed by the WVU Foundation along with other alumni chapter scholarship funds

Scholarship Program Details

Service Area: This endowment provides scholarships for undergraduate students who are nonresidents of West Virginia, enrolled at WVU, and living in the geographical area served by the CVCWVUAA. High schools in the chapter's immediate service area as well as counties in the Chapter's full service area are eligible.

Selection Process: Recipients demonstrate both academic achievement and financial need, with awards made by weighing each criterion equally. A student who receives the scholarship one year is eligible for consideration in succeeding years, but is limited to not more than two consecutive award cycles.

Award Structure: Two equal scholarships of a minimum of $500 are awarded yearly until the endowment can support additional recipients. Each award shall not exceed tuition and fees per recipient. The size and number of scholarships are determined by the WVU Foundation as the endowment grows.

Administration: Recipients are determined by the appropriate officials in the WVU Office of Student Financial Aid, with all scholarships awarded in the name of Blake E. Fought.

Recognition and How to Contribute

🏆 Scholarship Brick Recognition

In 2007, the CVCWVUAA was recognized with a Scholarship Brick to honor donors of endowed funds benefiting students. The Foundation engraved the name of the CVCWVUAA endowed scholarship into a brick on the Ernest L. Hogan Scholars Walk, located directly in front of WVU's Downtown Library Complex—a visible and permanent way to honor our commitment to student success.
