History of Community Involvement

For over two decades, the CVCWVUAA has embodied the Mountaineer spirit of service, making a lasting impact in Central Virginia through fundraising, community programs, and compassionate outreach.

2001-2010: Foundation Years

Wojcik Family Van Project (2001): During a pep rally before the NIT basketball game against Richmond, our chapter spearheaded fundraising for a handicap-accessible van for the Wojcik family. When Robert Wojcik, son of WVU alumni Robert & Betsy, was injured before starting at WVU, we raised $40,000 to purchase the van.

Central Virginia Foodbank Drives: Collected over 1,000 lbs of food during football and basketball watch parties at Quaker Steak & Lube, providing meals for more than 1,000 families in Central Virginia.

Salvation Army "Holiday Cheer & Gear": Partnered with ESPN 950AM's Greg Burton and Home Team Grill, raising over $3,000 through live auctions of WVU memorabilia since 2007.

2010-2020: Expanding Impact

WVU Children's Hospital Book Drive: Partnered with WVU Alumni office to collect over 300 children's books during Big East and NCAA tournaments, bringing comfort to young patients at WVU Medicine Children's Hospital.

Scholarship Fund Growth: Established and grew our scholarship program, supporting Central Virginia students pursuing their Mountaineer dreams at WVU.

2020-Present: Modern Mountaineer Service

Bears & Blankets Program: Our signature initiative provides comfort items to children at WVU Medicine Children's Hospital. Members donate new stuffed bears and blankets, bringing smiles to young patients during difficult times.

Digital Community Support: Adapted our outreach during challenging times, organizing virtual fundraisers and maintaining connections with alumni families throughout Central Virginia.

Parents Club Partnership: Supporting WVU families in our region with resources, events, and community connections for current and prospective Mountaineer families.

Our Continuing Mission

The CVCWVUAA believes that being a Mountaineer means more than cheering for our teams—it means caring for our community. From helping families in crisis to supporting the next generation of students, we carry forward the WVU spirit of service that makes us proud to be Mountaineers.
